Empowering Women

WAFA- Women’s Project (Work Assistance for Aid)

WAFA is a unique program created by Zara Initiative to help women who are affected by poverty, internally displaced, or are not able to work due to illness or disability, receive job training and opportunities in exchange for Aid.

Zara Initiative has an accurate surveying system that identifies and selects families in need. Once a family has qualified for the WAFA program, they are provided Job Training in one of many fields that best suits their lifestyles. In return for their training and work they will receive food and other necessities on a monthly basis. Through this program we make sure they develop the required skills, safe and sound working environment and the right network to earn an income. These families will be sponsored through Donors like yourselves and will be provided for until they become self-sufficient.

We believe that programs like this are the solution to fighting poverty and Aid dependence. Take advantage of this opportunity by sponsoring a family and become part of the solution not the problem.

Work Assistance for Aid

WAFA -Women’s Project currently has 30 families that have been surveyed and qualified for this project. They have been knitting wool by hand at home since the start of this project, however knitting by hand has proven to be very time consuming and difficult, especially in a home setting. Zara Initiative has come up with a solution that will increase production and improve working conditions.

● Purchasing wool knitting machines that will increase production and income.
● Leasing out a warehouse that will provide a practical working atmosphere and a healthy social environment.
● A Daycare center will be set up, since most of these women have small children that hinder their work at home. The children will also be provided some basic literacy classes.

To get this project started we are in need of funds. For only $7,180 we will be able to set up this small factory and create the necessary working environment for these women to provide for their families and move towards self-dependence.
